Meyer Music and Palen Music Center have both said they can no longer get these instruments and are offering alternatives. Just remember if you find something on your own, contact a band director first before you buy!

This class is designed to start students on two main percussion instruments with additional instruction on other instruments to round out the percussion needs of Independence Bands. The two main instruments we study are mallet keyboard instruments (bells, xylophone, etc) and drums (we use practice pads in class). These two instruments allow students to play nearly every percussion instruments with minor adjustments to technique and reading.

The goal of the Independence School District is to eventually prepare all students for potential college and careers. Students of music in Independence should feel free to pursue music as an option for a career or just to be a well rounded student who can appreciate music with deep understanding. 

Whatever students choose, learning a variety of percussion instruments will give them the foundation to pursue music in college with potential compensation in the form of grants or scholarships. They will also be more marketable as a potential professional musician being able to play more than just one instrument. Of course, learning each of these will also make students a better overall musician and give them a wider scope of how music functions.
