3rd grade STEM

3rd grade students participate in STEM with a program called Project Lead the Way (PLTW).  In this module, students learn about the forces involved in flight. Then they will design, build, and test an experimental model glider to find out how air and other forces affect its flight. In addition, they will apply a design process to the problem of delivering aid to an area where supplies must be airlifted in and dropped to the ground from an aircraft.

Students building simple machines with their VEX kits.

Students earned a reward day and enjoyed coding robots.

After reading a different version of Jack and the Beanstalk, students created a type of parachute to help Jack land safely on the ground.

Investigating balanced and unbalanced forces

Learning about the force of lift and weight by flying a propeller.

Students created a compound machine to "save the tiger". They had to pick it up and move it to another location safely.

Students used the VEX kits to design a wheel and axle.
