Patriot Marching Band
The Truman High School Marching Band fields around 200-220 students from year to year. It is a competitive ensemble that boasts many finalist placements as well as a few championships. This ensemble has been invited to perform at the King Kahmehameha parade in Hawaii and the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. This band has also traveled to Florida, the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and The Bahamian Islands. Look left for some of this band's performances
Students enrolled in 8th grade band at any of the Independence School District Middle Schools are eligible to participate in Marching Band only if they are present for the various rehearsals we host during the summer months. Students that do not show up for these will not have a spot reserved for them on the field and will have to participate as crew members or do written work as a part of their grade earned in class.
Pre-excused absences will result in a delayed placement in the show since they will have missed a lot during the summer.
Students that move in from other school districts may also participate so long as directors are notified in enough time to write a spot in our show. If they do not attend any summer rehearsals, there will likely not be a spot for them for this season. They may join us for parades and play in the stands with us at football games until we begin concert season in December.
Other students from the general population may participate as long as they are able to perform an instrument or perform with our color guard. These spots require an audition process with directors of the ensemble. Students are not guaranteed a spot unless the audition confirms their ability and can be helpful to the ensemble.
