American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Prerequisites
To pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course students must meet the following requirements:
- Able to swim 300 yards consecutively
- 100 yards front crawl
- 100 yards breast stroke
- 100 yards choice between front crawl or breast stroke
- Perform the diving brick test within 1 minute 40 seconds
- Swim 20 yards
- Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet
- Retrieve the 10 lbs diving brick and swim back to the starting point
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps
- Pass all rescue skill scenarios.
- Pass all CPR skill scenarios.
- Pass the written exam with a score of 80% or better.
