William Chrisman A+ Scholarship Training
GETTING STARTED --
Step One: Know the A+ requirements! Review the A+ information provided above. Email Darin Sehlke, Chrisman's A+ Coordinator or Christy Playter, A+ Secretary, if you have any questions about your eligibility.
Step Two: In order to participate in A+, students need to complete their Letter of Intent. Once completed, it can be turned into Mrs. Playter in the activities office -- which officially enrolls you into the A+ program. Students must enroll in the A+ program no later than January 31st of their senior year.
Step Three: Once the student is ready to start their tutoring hours, they will need to complete the A+ Tutoring Application. We will work with the building principal at the ISD school selected on the application and inform the student once their placement has been approved. Class of 2025 -- all hours are due to the A+ office by May 10th.
ISD Tutoring Hours Available:
- T-F 3:15 - 3:50 (Benton, Bingham, Nowlin, Pioneer, Procter, Randall, Santa Fe)
- T-F 3:15 - 4:35 (Blackburn, Bryant, Cassell Park, Fairmount, Glendale, Hanthorn, Korte, Little Blue, Luff, Mallinson, Mill Creek, Ott, Spring Branch, Sugar Creek, Sunshine, Sycamore, Three Trails, Wiliam Southern)
- Limited Kids Safari hours also available upon request
- Limited Monday hours available on select dates available upon request with prior approval
- Students can also complete their A+ tutoring hours by becoming an AVID Tutor at Bingham, Nowlin or Pioneer Ridge Middle Schools. Hours are 3:18 - 3:50 PM (2-4 days a week). Must provide own transportation; participate in a 2-hour training session and follow-up training as needed; Maintain prompt, regular, reliable attendance at tutoring sessions; demonstrate leadership skills and be a positive role model; facilitate study groups at the middle school level; and communicate regularly with the AVID Coordinator/AVID Elective Teacher. If interested, please complete the following AVID Tutor Form.
Step Four: Monitor your status. Check back with Mr Sehlke or Mrs. Playter to see if you are still on track with your attendance percentage, GPA, and tutoring hours. The most common reason why students might not get certified is the 95% attendance requirement. Missing just 8 days of school each year can jeopardize A+ grant money.
