Networking & Computer Systems Pathway

3200: Technology and Information Management (0.5 credit, Gr. 9-12)

This course is an introduction to the computer science field. Students will be given the chance to create simple mobile applications using App Inventor. This will give a basic introduction to programming. There will also be an opportunity to work with basic html. Students will be given the chance to see how they can influence society by reviewing current trends. I over view of how to do some basic graphics will also be included.

 

3600: Introduction to Computer Networking (0.5 credit, Gr. 9-12)

This course will prepare students to be able to take the CompTIA Strata certification. It will cover an explanation of technologies and hardware basics. They will be able to identify compatibility issues and common errors that occur. Each student will be given the opportunity work with software installations and the functions they involve. It will be important that each student be able to identify security risks and measures that can be taken to prevent them.

 

3521: Computer Troubleshooting (1 credit, Gr. 10-12)

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Introduction to Computer Technologies

After taking Introduction to Computer Technologies, this course with deepen students understanding of the computer field by preparing them for the CompTIA A+ certification. This course will cover the topics in the 220-801 and 220-802 exam. Each student will gain a better foundation in their understanding of the fundamentals of computer technology. Students will learn how to maintain, upgrade, diagnose, and fix computer related problems. They will gain a stronger understanding of operating systems, software, and how to maximize their use as they pertain to the computing field. There will be an overview of networking, portable devices, printers, and several of the devices that function along with the computer itself.

 

3606: Networking I (1 credit, Gr. 11-12)

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Computer Troubleshooting

From this class the students will be looking at beginning on their certification for the CompTIA Network+. They will have received an overview of basic networking from taking Computer Troubleshooting. This course will help the students better understand the use of network technologies in the field, what it takes to install and maintain a network, the types of media and topologies that will be implemented, how to manage a network, and concepts on keeping a network secure.

 

3608: Networking II (1 credit, Gr. 12)

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Networking I

In conjunction with Networking I, the students will be finishing up their preparation to take the CompTIA Network+ certification test. They will further their understanding of how network technologies are used in the field, what it takes to build and maintain a working network, the types of media that is currently being used in the field, topologies that are possible to implement, and how to manage and secure a network. This certification is recommended or required by several companies like Dell, HP, Apple, and many more.
